The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien,  The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventures of Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and thirteen dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

The beautiful blue-green waters of the Pelorus River in Marlborough served as a fantastic backdrop for the ‘dwarves in barrels’ scene, featured in the movie trailer.  Trade a barrel for a more suitable inflatable kayak to float through crystal clear waterways and cascade down the rapids!
